About Pei-I Yang
Integrative Family & Systemic Psychotherapist

Clinical Director, Rainbow Parenting Practice and Rainbow Family Therapy Service

I’m Pei-I Yang, a UKCP-accredited Family & Systemic Psychotherapist and a parenting specialist.

For over 30 years, I’ve supported children, adolescents, parents, and entire family systems through moments of uncertainty, rupture, transition, and repair.

My work draws from four disciplines: family systemic therapy, psychology, psychoanalytic thinking, and child development.

But more than that, it’s rooted in the belief that relationships are where we struggle—and where we heal.

I offer a space where change becomes possible. In our work together, we create space to slow things down. To look underneath what’s happening. To understand patterns and to restore a sense of safety and connection—for each person and for the system as a whole.

This may look like:

-
Feeling less reactive with each other
-
Being able to sit in the same room without tension
-
Rebuilding trust after breakdowns
-
Making meaning of things that were never named
-
Understanding your parenting decision and what's influencing you
No two families are the same. And there is no single path back to connection.
But when families begin to feel safe and connected again—everything else becomes possible.

In the 30 years of experience working with families, adults, children, and professionals facing complexity in managerial, clinical, and consultative roles, I learned that difficulties don’t live inside one person. They live in relationships, histories, and systems.
Most importantly, I believe that every one in the family is part of the solution and there's always hope, endless hope.

My Background

For nearly 30 years, I’ve supported families across education, volungary sector, local authorities, and private practice. What connects every space I’ve worked in is this: families come carrying so much more than what shows on the surface.

I’ve walked alongside families navigating:

-
Ongoing conflict or emotional breakdowns
-
Experiences of trauma, abuse, loss, or rupture
-
The challenges and richness of neurodivergence
-
Patterns that repeat across generations—despite everyone’s best efforts
-
Encounters with systems that mislabel or misunderstand them
-
Seperation
-
Children and young people entering care system
-
Psychological disorders or mental health difficulties
-
High risk out of control teenager behaviour

My integrative approach helps me hold both emotional depth and therapeutical direction that support families find solutions moving forward together.

How I Work

I work to help families understand what’s happening between them, how past experiences are shaping present responses, and how new patterns can be built safely and sustainably.

Who I Work With

Every family is different. I work with a wide range of relationships, life stages, and challenges and hold a keen interest in the teenage years, including: (This is not an exhaustive list)

-
Families navigating high conflict, emotional disconnection, or relational shutdown
-
Parents struggling to respond to a teenager’s out-of-control or frightening behaviour
-
Families caring for children or adolescents with experiences of trauma, care, or disrupted attachment
-
Parents and adult children working through long-standing tension or distance
-
Families living with neurodivergence, mental health challenges, or complex developmental histories
-
Relationship difficulties at home—between siblings, co-parents, or across generations
-
Care-experienced children and the families, carers, or systems around them
-
Professionals and services supporting families who need systemic consultation or reflective space

I also provide consultation and training to organisations working with families, including care, fostering, adoption, and frontline services — helping professionals think systemically without burning out.
Why Rainbow Family Therapy

Families are often offered support in pieces. One person sees the child. Another works with the parent. Advice comes in fragments—but no one is holding the whole story.

At Rainbow Family Therapy, we work systemically—helping families see what’s happening between them, beneath the surface, and across time. We take a wider view. And we begin to make sense of what’s felt stuck for too long.

This work is thoughtful, careful, and grounded in deep respect for each person’s experience. If you’re feeling unsure, overwhelmed, or simply tired—know that you’re not alone.
Families respond to what they’ve lived through. With the right kind of support, those responses can begin to shift. That’s what this space is for.
